The Simbionix VirtaMed HystSim Virtual Reality Simulator provides a complete curriculum designed for structured integration of Hysteroscopy training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology residency programmes.
The HystSim simulator provides realistic simulation of the procedure challenges including obscured vision, irrigation and bleeding control.
It also includes a unique ‘Instructor’ Control Panel, which enables the instructor to initiate emergency scenarios, e.g. instrument failure and fluid overflow, during a training session by the instructor.
The system provides an extensive post-procedure debriefing report including objective performance assessment and optional expert-defined scores for the categories, such as resection, visualization, economy, safety and fluid handling.
HYSTEROSCOPY ESSENTIAL SKILLS MODULE:
8 exercises, each focuses on one critical step of the procedure:
Accessing the cervix (anteverted uteri, retroverted uteri)
Establishing uterine distension inside the uterine cavity
Navigation inside the uterine cavity
Taking a proper biopsy
Polyp removal using grasper or scissors and treating synechia and
Light cases of Asherman's syndrome.
Education aids include videos and instructions on safe procedure performance applied to the anatomical setting, providing the trainee with tips and tricks to improve performance and demonstrating correct behaviour.
DIAGNOSTIC HYSTEROSCOPY MODULE:
12 virtual patients with varying pathologies in different levels of difficulty.
The trainee can gain experience on the use of angled optics, the way to establish clear view and visualize the entire cavity in a safe environment.
Performance review provides feedback on an overview of the visualized uterine surface, intervention ergonomics (intervention time, camera path), intervention safety measures (collisions of camera with uterine wall), as well as feedback on fluid handling.
8 virtual patients with varying pathologies in different levels of difficulty aiming at practicing safe therapeutic hysteroscopy using a loop electrode.
Performance review provides feedback on the amount and quality of the removed polyp, intervention ergonomics (intervention time, camera path), and intervention safety measures.
MYOMECTOMY REMOVAL MODULE:
8 virtual patients with varying types of submucosal fibroids (type 0) in different positions and in different levels of difficulties.

ENDOMETRIUM ABLATION MODULE:
4 virtual patients with varying cavities and pathologies.
Trainees gain practice on endometrium ablation using a rollerball.
Performance review provides feedback on a visual overview of the coagulated uterine surface, intervention ergonomics (intervention time, camera path), and intervention safety measures.
ADVANCED RESECTION MODULE:
The module includes various patients with advanced gynaecologic pathologies intended for physicians with some experience in diagnostic and therapeutic hysteroscopy.
The trainee prepares for more difficult procedures such as multiple polyps and myomas of type I and II. Additional cases with uterine adhesions and a septum, challenge the trainees and provide better preparation for the operation room.
Permanent Birth Control System
The module is designed to enable training of permanent birth control placement.
8 virtual patient cases include anteverted and retroverted uteri, as well as ostia configurations ranging from flat and easily accessible tubes to more difficult scenarios with funnelling tubes and built up endometrium.
Realistic experience of the procedure using authentic scope and Essure® micro-insert; a variety of complications, such as distention difficulties, false passages and tubal resistance, can be practiced with no risk to patient safety and well being.
The module includes a hysteroscope with an Essure® micro-insert device.
The MyoSure® (Hologic) is a medical device for hysteroscopic tissue removal.
The MyoSure® procedure allows physicians to remove submucous fibroids or endometrial polyps with a safe mechanical process without the use of electricity in the uterus.
The Morcellation Module provides simulation of complete MyoSure® procedure cases with rising difficulty, including structured complication training.
An adapted, original Myosure® scope is used to provide a complete simulation experience and to facilitate familiarization with instruments.
A virtual pump interface allows fluid handling training for different pumps.
