data are placed inside the cordless and watertight transducers. Due to their small size and weight, the mobile transducers can be carried easily, and offer great flexibility due to a range of up to 80 metres. Although the range reduces when underwater, it is still several metres.
All signals are transmitted digitally, via a single RF link, making the monitoring safe against external influences. The radiated energy is small enough to avoid any influence to the patient.
Information is displayed via coloured LEDs, which are easy to understand even at a distance.
The Transducer Units
The watertight transducers are lightweight and nearly as small as standard cable transducers, and have exactly the same application. Elastic tubing is used to fix the transducers during mobile measurement. The T800 transducers are suitable for complete submersion in water as well as use around water.
The power source is a rechargeable Li-Ion battery, and the unit will automatically recharge when placed at the storing compartment of the receiver unit. A fully-charged battery will last about eight hours.
Transducer Units:
T800U - a Doppler-Ultrasound device
T803U - additionally enables the measurement and transmission of the fetal ECG whilst the ultrasound is running. For the ECG scalp electrode, a leg plate adapter cable is connected to the T803U. This also enables recording of twins.
T800T - the TOCO-Transducer transmits its signals over a short range to the Ultrasound transducer using magnetic technology. Here, the signals are combined and sent over long range to the receiver, hence reducing the total amount of radiation as only one RF channel is used for three signals.
The Receiver Unit
The receiver unit is a small independent device which can be placed on top of the fetal monitor, in a compartment in a trolley, or indeed elsewhere. When connected to a fetal monitor (or STAN) Telemetry T800 allows automatic use of the ambulatory measurement.
At the front panel, the receiver includes two charging and storing docks for the transducer units. When in place, the units’ batteries will automatically recharge. During operation, the battery capacity is monitored. An indicator light on the receiver warns of low battery.
The receiver delivers all signals to the interface of the fetal monitor. When the transducers come into operation, the monitor will switch automatically from local to telemetry mode. A Gainflex Antenna is used with the receiver as standard, though others are available on request.
