Bronchoscopy Training Simulator

The GI Mentor is the most comprehensive training module for GI procedures in the world...

With GI Mentor, clinicians are able to practice upper and lower GI procedures across an extensive training curriculum including everything from the fundamentals of endoscopic skills to advanced procedures such as ERCP and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS). Features include an extensive library of virtual patients, and over 120 tasks & cases including: flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, gastroscopy and emergency bleeding scenarios. The GI Mentor has been specifically designed to offer a true-to-life endoscopic procedure using the same tools and accessories as in real procedures. It is these factors which have made GI Mentor the GI endoscopic simulator of choice used by leading societies to train and assess endoscopic skills.

Made for Learning...
objective feedback...

Objective feedback on each procedure allows trainees to review their performance and also save the performance for reviewing at a later date. Feedback parameters include scope location, state of the GI tract, problematic occurrences and patient discomfort during the procedure.

instructor setup...

As a designated instructor, the GI Mentor allows you to review the saved performances of all trainees and also gives the option to designate that trainees MUST save performances and decide whether trainees are able to see educational aids and videos during procedures.

build a curriculum...

Instructors can quickly and easily build a bespoke training programme, using the 20 different upper GI and lower GI cases to prepare a custom curriculum which can be assigned to one or multiple trainees, or be saved as a template.

instructional aids...

During procedures, multiple educational aids provide instructions and guidance, demonstrative videos and running feedback.

assessment capabilities...

The ability to build bespoke training programmes, to set up instructors, and for these instructors to be able to review trainees’ performance, makes GI Mentor ideal for in-house assessments and refreshers.

Simbionix are currently working with the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) on the Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery (FES) online training and testing programme.

GI Mentor modules...

The GI Mentor’s comprehensive library of modules provides a curriculum for the training of basic and advanced procedures, from rehearsing basic endoscopic skills to carrying out specific complex and challenging procedures. Constant collaboration with the medical community means that the library of modules is always under development, so let us know your thoughts and watch this space...

cyberscopy skills module...

The cyberscopy module is designed to optimise the acquisition of basic GI endoscopy skills.Non-anatomical environments mean that the focus is on basic skills such as scope manipulation, hand-eye co-ordination, and accurate manoeuvring of scope and tool. The module includes:

Endobasket
An endoscopic basketball game - to develop basic skills
•Helps develop depth perception and orientation
•Valuable practice in gripping and working with the endoscope
•Increases both confidence and skills in a fun way
Endobubble
An endoscopic dart game - to hone skills
•Helps develop proper grip and control of left/right and
 up/down knobs of the endoscope
•Quickens response time
•Increases both confidence and skills in a fun way

upper GI endoscopy modules...

One of the GI Mentor’s big features is to be able to switch between upper GI endoscopy and lower GI endoscopy at the click of  a button. There are two upper GI  endoscopy modules which involve performing a complete survey of the upper GI tract with a forward viewing video-endoscope and identifying typical lesions and then allow users to perform fully simulated procedures, meaning the whole process of diagnosis through to therapeutic treatment is possible.

Across there are twenty virtual patient cases which come complete with case histories, biological test results and x-rays for ultimate realism.
To aid rehearsal, the cases are arranged in order from the more simple diagnostic tasks to complex cases involving therapeutic procedures in patients with major pathologies.

COMPLETE PROCEDURES

I

Along with the upper GI endoscopy modules, the GI Mentor offers two comprehensive lower GI  endoscopy modules. These enable a complete survey of the lower GI tract with an authentic forward viewing video-endoscope to hone diagnostic techniques and increase recognition of typical lesions and abnormalities.

Twenty virtual patient cases with full patient history are again present to enhance realism. Along the way, trainees will encounter true-to-life situations such as intestinal looping and complex colon anatomies. Patient discomfort can also be monitored throughout in order to teach best-practice procedure with minimal pain.

Therapeutic procedures such as biopsy and polypectomy can be practiced as fully simulated procedures, with complete procedural feedback.
